The Croatian National Theatre in cooperation with Radiona / Makerspace Zagreb organized a workshop “The Sound of Trolls” for the artistic team working on “Peer Gynt” as part of the collaboration project Kintetics of Sound on 24/25 October 2017 in Zagreb. After the workshop in Oslo a week before this was the second OpenLab with the Croatian team, directod by Ivica Buljan who will stage the Croatian classic “Kraljevo”  in Oslo (premiere 26 April 2018)and the the Norwegian team from Det Norske Teatret with artistic director Erik Ulfsby, working on “Peer Gynt” to be premiered on 20 April 2018  in Zagreb. Both productions work with the composer Mitja Vrhvonik Smrekar and experiment with the latest digital audio technology.

In this workshop, participants played with various acoustic and electronic DIY instruments for experimental music, using a wide range of device participants gave sound to these characters, while simultaneously eliminating their fear of technology. They gained insight into different possibilities of using analogue and digital music instruments and, through improvisation, created sound / music relating to Norway’s mythological world of trolls. The workshop aimed to connect the activities of the hacker, geeky culture with this mythological concept as reflected dramatically by Ibsen in “Peer Gynt”. The workshop was held by Damir Prizmić, Deborah Hustić and Igor Brkić from Radonia.
